چکیده
In this study, commercially available cation- and anion-exchange membranes were investigated in hybrid liquid/gas electrolyzers by coupling situ ambient pressure hard X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy with finite element analysis.

Modeling the ion transfer and polarization of ion exchange membranes in bioelectrochemical systems.
An explicit numerical model for the charge balancing ion transfer across monopolar ion exchange membranes under conditions of bioelectrochemical systems is presented. Diffusion and migration equations have been solved according to the Nernst-Planck Equation and the resulting ion concentrations, pH values and the resistance values of the membrane for different conditions were computed. The model...
متن کاملEffect of temperature on ion transport in nanofiltration membranes: Diffusion, convection and electromigration
Nanofiltration performance as a function of feed temperature is relevant to several industrial settings including pretreatment for scale control in thermal desalination. Understanding of solute transport as a function of temperature is critical for effective membrane and system design. In this study, nanofiltration is modeled at 22, 40 and 50C using the Donnan Steric Pore Model with dielectric ...
متن کاملHybrid Molten/Solid In2O3-Bi2O3 Oxygen Ion Transport Membranes
The hybrid molten/solid In2O3 - 30-48 wt.% Bi2O3 oxide materials were studied with respect to their transport properties. The conductivities, oxygen ion transport numbers and oxygen permeation fluxes have been measured by using the four-probe DC, volumetric measurements of the faradaic efficiency and gas flow techniques, respectively. We show that the...
متن کاملElectrodialysis of Blood Using Ion-Exchange Membranes
THE correction of electrolyte imbalance and the removal of retention products of the blood during renal failure is at present achieved by the use of artificial kidneys which permit the diffusion of solutes through a semi-permeable membrane. Several types of apparatus used successfully for hemodialysis include those described by Kolff and Watschinger (1956) and Alwall, Norviit, and Steins (1948)...
متن کاملElectrokinetic Remediation of Uranium Contaminated Soil by Ion Exchange Membranes
Abstract—The contamination of significant quantities of soils and sediments with uranium and other actinide elements as a result of nuclear activity poses many environmental risks. The electrokinetic process is one of the most promising remediation techniques for sludge, sediment, and saturated or unsaturated soils contaminated with heavy metals and radionuclides. However, secondary waste is a ...
